An Electrical and Instrumentation Engineer (E&I) in the Oil & Gas sector is responsible for the design, installation, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of electrical power systems and instrumentation/control systems used in upstream, midstream, and downstream facilities.
Key responsibilities typically include:
Design and review of electrical systems (LV/MV/HV, generators, transformers, UPS, grounding, hazardous area classification).
Engineering, installation, and maintenance of instrumentation and control systems (PLC, DCS, SCADA, SIS).
Calibration, testing, and troubleshooting of field instruments (pressure, temperature, flow, level, analyzers).
Commissioning and start-up support for plants, pipelines, and offshore/onshore facilities.
Compliance with international standards and codes (IEC, IEEE, API, ATEX, NEC).
Preventive and corrective maintenance planning and execution.
Coordination with mechanical, process, and HSE teams to ensure safe and reliable operations.
Preparation of technical documentation, datasheets, loop diagrams, and as-built drawings.
Typical work environments:
Oil and gas fields, refineries, gas plants, LNG facilities.
