Senior Exploration Geophysicist

The Senior Exploration Geophysicist is responsible for designing, executing, and interpreting geophysical surveys to support hydrocarbon, mineral, or energy exploration activities. This role involves advanced data analysis, integration with geological and reservoir information, and providing technical leadership to optimize exploration and development strategies.

Key Responsibilities

1. Geophysical Data Acquisition & Processing

• Plan and design geophysical surveys (seismic, gravity, magnetic, EM, etc.)

• Ensure quality control of data acquisition programs

• Oversee data processing workflows and validate outputs

2. Interpretation & Modeling

• Interpret 2D/3D seismic data and other geophysical datasets

• Generate subsurface models, structural maps, and stratigraphic interpretations

• Identify exploration targets, leads, and prospects

• Quantify uncertainties and risks in exploration prospects

3. Integration & Analysis

• Integrate geophysical data with geological, petrophysical, and reservoir data

• Collaborate with geologists, reservoir engineers, and drilling teams

• Support basin analysis and play fairway evaluations

4. Technical Leadership

• Provide mentorship and guidance to junior geophysicists

• Lead multidisciplinary project teams

• Contribute to technical standards and best practices

5. Exploration Strategy & Decision Support

• Support portfolio evaluation and prospect ranking

• Deliver recommendations for drilling locations

• Participate in exploration strategy development and reviews

6. Technology & Innovation

• Apply advanced techniques (e.g., seismic inversion, AVO analysis, machine learning)

• Evaluate and implement new geophysical technologies

• Stay updated on industry trends and methodologies

7. Reporting & Communication

• Prepare technical reports, presentations, and documentation

• Communicate findings clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders

• Represent the company in technical meetings and industry forums

Required Qualifications

• Education:
  Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Geophysics, Geology, Earth Sciences, or related field (PhD is a plus)

• Experience:
  Typically 8–15+ years of experience in exploration geophysics

• Technical Skills:

  • Strong expertise in seismic interpretation (2D/3D)

  • Experience with interpretation software (e.g., Petrel, Kingdom, OpenWorks)

  • Knowledge of geophysical processing techniques

  • Understanding of basin analysis and petroleum systems (or mineral systems)
