Main Purpose of the Role
The Veterinary Doctor will be responsible for ensuring the health, welfare, and productivity of the dairy herd. The role involves managing preventive health programs, diagnosing and treating diseases, and supporting the overall performance of the herd in line with Baladna El Djazair’s
Key Responsibilities
Animal Health & Clinical Care
- Perform regular herd health checks to detect early signs of illness or distress.
- Diagnose and treat diseases, injuries, and reproductive disorders in dairy cattle.
- Administer medications, vaccinations, and other veterinary treatments as required.
- Develop and update herd health protocols in line with best veterinary practices.
- Ensure animal welfare standards are consistently applied and respected.
Preventive Health & Biosecurity
- Design and implement preventive medicine programs (vaccination, deworming, parasite control).
- Monitor herd biosecurity measures to prevent the introduction or spread of infectious diseases.
- Oversee isolation, quarantine, and movement of animals when necessary.
- Conduct disease surveillance and report to management or authorities when required.
Reproduction & Herd Performance
- Supervise and manage reproduction programs (artificial insemination, pregnancy checks, calving).
- Investigate infertility or reproductive problems and propose corrective actions.
- Keep accurate reproductive and health performance records for analysis and decision-making.
Nutrition & Production Support
- Work closely with nutritionists to evaluate feed quality and animal nutrition.
- Identify and address health issues linked to feeding, metabolism, or production stress.
- Participate in programs aimed at improving milk yield and overall herd performance.
Data Management & Reporting
- Maintain detailed medical and health records for each animal.
- Analyze herd data to identify trends and make recommendations for improvement.
- Prepare periodic health and performance reports for farm management.
Training & Team Collaboration
- Train farm staff on animal handling, hygiene, and disease prevention.
- Support and guide technicians and workers in implementing veterinary protocols.
- Collaborate with farm management, nutrition, and breeding teams to ensure integrated herd management.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure compliance with veterinary regulations and company policies.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and biosecure working environment in all veterinary areas.
- Stay updated on new veterinary technologies, treatments, and industry best practices.
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree: Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) with specialization or experience in bovine or dairy production.
- Experience: Minimum [05] years in dairy or intensive cattle farming.
- Solid knowledge of bovine infectious, metabolic, and reproductive diseases.
- Strong understanding of vaccination protocols and biosecurity measures.
- Team player with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Fluency in French or Arabic required; English is an advantage.
