Join us and be part of shaping the future of agriculture and dairy in Algeria. currently seeking an experienced Controller / Chief Accontant – Arable Operations to join our team.
Role overview :
To oversee and manage the financial, accounting, and cost control activities of arable farming operations (Alfalfa, Barley, Corn), ensuring accurate financial reporting, effective cost management, and compliance with accounting policies, while supporting management decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Financial & Accounting Management
Manage and supervise the daily accounting operations of the Arable Department.
Ensure accurate and timely recording of all financial transactions.
Maintain a cost accounting system by crop (Alfalfa, Barley, Corn).
2. Cost Control & Analysis
Record, monitor, and analyze direct and indirect production costs for each arable product.
Maintain detailed cost sheets per crop and production cycle.
Identify cost variances and recommend corrective actions to improve efficiency and profitability.
3. Payables, Receivables & Cash Management
Oversee accounts payable and receivable related to arable vendors and customers.
Ensure timely payments, collections, and proper follow-up.
Manage and control the petty cash of the Arable Department.
4. Payroll & Operating Expenses
Control payroll costs for the Arable Department.
Monitor and analyze utility and operating expenses (water, electricity, fuel, maintenance, etc.).
Support cost optimization initiatives across arable operations.
5. Period-End Closings
Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual closings for arable accounts.
Ensure accuracy of accruals, provisions, and adjusting entries.
Reconcile analytical and general ledger accounts.
6. Management Reporting & Performance Monitoring
Prepare periodic Management Information System (MIS) reports.
Analyze financial and operational results and present them to the Arable General Manager.
Develop and monitor key financial and operational performance indicators (KPIs).
7. Budgeting & Variance Analysis
Prepare the annual budget for arable operations.
Monitor monthly performance against budget.
Perform budget vs. actual variance analysis and provide explanations and recommendations.
8. Policies, Procedures & Internal Control
Establish, implement, and enforce accounting policies and procedures for arable operations.
Strengthen internal controls and ensure compliance with accounting standards and company policies.
9. Audit & Compliance
Coordinate and support internal and external audits related to arable operations.
Prepare audit documentation and respond to auditors inquiries.
Follow up on audit recommendations and corrective actions.
Qualifications & Experience :
Bachelor’s degree or professional qualification in Accounting, Finance, or Management.
Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar role within arable farming or agro-industrial operations.
Strong experience in agricultural cost accounting and production cost analysis.
Advanced proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel.
Working knowledge of SAP (FICO and Costing modules) is highly preferred.
Solid understanding of accounting standards, internal controls, and financial reporting.
